CD Projekt Red (CDPR) joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski just revealed that the company is hoping to release The Witcher 4 in 2028. The long-awaited sequel was first announced all the way back in 2022, but didn’t get a reveal trailer until The Game Awards in late 2024.
“Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest and most ambitious game to date,” he said in a short video posted to social media. “I know it’s a bit of a wait and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook.”

As we near #gamescom in just a few days, CD PROJEKT RED Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski would like to personally invite YOU to join us there, and hear about the future of The Witcher franchise!
To that end, Nowakowski confirmed that CDPR will not be showing off the sequel at Gamescom, which starts on August 26. It will, however, be showing a whole lot of the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past expansion. This is the third real-deal expansion for the 2015 action RPG and comes a full decade after the second one.
The company will reveal “a lot of the expansion” at Gamescom, including a “taste of its dark story and the new content it will bring.” It’s due sometime in 2027.
I, for one, am happy giving CDPR all the time it needs to make sure The Witcher 4 is as good as it can be on launch day. We all remember what happened with the original launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
