This morning, the stylist-athlete duo are back at Arthur Ashe Stadium and ready for round two—literally and sartorially. The tennis star stepped out onto the court in custom Thom Browne, sporting a double-collared sheer jacket accented by crossed tennis racquet embroidery and cascading martingale details.
Underneath, Osaka paired the dramatic jacket with a belted paneled mesh skirt overlay—a bright and airy start to the morning. “I respect Naomi as an athlete and as a person—she represents so much of what I am inspired by: excellence, focus, quiet power, intensity, intelligence, most importantly, true individuality, and she simply brings her own style and fashion to life, and to the tennis court,” Thom Browne tells Vogue.
“I am so inspired and happy seeing her playing so well. I am so happy that the fashion doesn’t take away from the most important aspect of Naomi, the true champion she is.”
For Roach, both tennis and Thom Browne are already familiar subjects, and the latter warmly refers to their partnership as a “respectful dance.” The image architect likened the embroidered motifs to the work the stylist did with Zendaya and Thom Browne while the actress was on her press tour for Challengers.
“I think of Thom for all of my iconic moments,” he says. “When I was retained by Naomi, my first conversation with her was that I thought, for the US Open, we should be focusing on American designers and American brands. When you think of American designers, Thom Browne, for me, is one of the great American designers of our time.”
“I love the fact that it’s made in New York and is exactly where these games are being played on New York soil,” continues Law.
It’s a city that Naomi holds dear to her heart, and channeling its electric energy—in addition to paying homage to home brands—is a defining motif her 2026 US Open looks.
