6 Fall Denim Trends to Shop Now, According to Experts

Although a seasonless category, denim is a serious power player in the fall capsule wardrobe, serving as outfit building blocks as the cooler temperatures hit. New jeans are always a smart buy as you start transitioning your wardrobe to greet the shift in season. And although we’ve seen plenty of trends emerge over the past year, fall 2026 denim trends carry several spring themes forward, from bootcut to deep indigo washes and colored denim.

However, the pendulum is beginning to swing: slouchier wide-leg proportions of the past are making room for streamlined silhouettes, with straight-legs and slim cigarette styles coming back into focus. The Experts’ Guide to Fall’s Top Denim Trends:
With a little help from the experts at some of the most beloved denim brands—Levi’s, Citizens of Humanity, Still Here, and Agolde, to name a few—we’re unpacking the jean styles you should be investing in for fall 2026.

Spoiler alert: Many of them are bona fide closet classics, which means they won’t feel too out of touch with the pairs you might already hold near and dear. “The mood for fall 2026 is confident and easy,” says Sonia Mosseri, co-founder and creative director of Still Here. “We’re inspired by getting dressed instinctively, the pieces you throw on without overthinking because they always work.

This season is about creating denim that feels

This season is about creating denim that feels familiar from the first wear, with silhouettes that become part of your daily rotation. Every piece is designed to live your life in.”
Cosigned by most of the experts we spoke to, instinctive dressing is back in focus, and no style captures this mood better than straight-leg jeans—specifically, classic shapes that channel vintage denim with a perfectly worn-in feel and authentic true blue washes.

Long and loose silhouettes are getting skinnier across the board, and the bootcut is back, too, with cleaner finishes in deep indigo and rinse washes. Utility detailing also emerged as a key talking point, while earth-toned jeans continue the colored denim trend we’ve seen building—a palette that feels particularly fitting for fall. This season, it’s all about a well-rounded mix, so don’t be afraid to welcome a bit of everything into your rotation.

There’s a renewed desire for denim that feels authentic and uncomplicated. “We’re craving authenticity right now,” says Meredith Kahn, head of design at Re/Done, pointing to a return to pieces that feel “real, personal, and lived-in.” That sentiment is showing up in both wash and silhouette—primarily, straighter slimmer legs paired with vintage true-blue washes.

There’s a strong appetite for denim that’s easy,

“There’s a strong appetite for denim that’s easy, versatile, and comfortable to wear,” says Jill Guenza, vice president of women’s apparel design at Levi Strauss & Co., while at the same time, a renewed interest in slimmer shapes. Karen Phelps, creative director of Agolde, notes a move towards “stovepipe and straighter slimmer-legs,” while Jac Cameron, founder of Rùadh, sees “strong potential in a relaxed slim-leg jean, offering a sense of casual ease while still maintaining a considered silhouette.” After seasons of wide-leg and ultra-relaxed shapes, the result is denim that appears less manufactured and more lived-in—from the get-go.

Earth Tones
Color takes a grounded turn for fall, with denim moving beyond the traditional blue palette and towards earthy tonal shades. “I am translating this to greens and browns for fall,” says Elena Bonvicini, founder and creative director of EB Denim, following a pre-fall season filled with butter yellow, khaki, and soft pink. At Still Here, Sonia Mosseri is seeing the same shift, pointing to an army green hue the brand has newly introduced—a fresh yet wearable option.

At Ossou, the palette takes an equally nuanced approach, with shades like “storm, rye, sorrell, dusk, and tobacco” bringing unexpected brown undertones to the fore. “The idea is that everything feels familiar, but slightly off in the best way,” creative directors Nina Khosla and Talia Shuvalov explain—washes that feel even more personal with wear. Indigo Rising
The deep indigo trend story continues for fall 2026, taking on the slimmer silhouettes we’re noticing across the board with a distinctly refined feel.

We’re seeing a real return to rich saturated

“We’re seeing a real return to rich saturated indigos, deep pools of color that feel almost archival, whether they’re beautifully worn-in or hand-detailed to capture the character of heirloom vintage,” Gallagher McDonald says. That same appreciation for depth is showing up in rinse and rigid denim, too, with brands leaning into the character of rawer fabrics and the richness of pure indigo.

For Cameron at Rùadh, it’s about using rigid Japanese denim—something that might seem stiff and daunting at first, but actually allows the fabric to soften and develop more character over time. Color-Blocked
Reworked denim is becoming even more expressive, as designers play with color, construction, and unexpected proportions this season. “An expansion of color palette and relaxed but elevated silhouettes” is how B-Sides co-founders Stacy Daily and Claire Lampert describe their direction, highlighting dropped waists and seamed architecture that feel “at once feminine and handsome.” At Ossou, the same spirit comes through in the Jane jean, a bi-color style that combines the core earth tones of fall in a single silhouette.

Rather than relying on stark contrast, Khosla and Shuvalov say the tonal combination creates “depth and dimension” in a way that feels understated and easy to wear. The result is denim with a little more personality—statement, but still decidedly wearable. The Rebooted Bootcut
Among the return to skinnier silhouettes, the bootcut isn’t going anywhere—in fact, it’s beginning to feel less like a trend and more like a wardrobe staple again.

The bootcut will still be a strong style

“The bootcut will still be a strong style this season,” says Bonvicini. “I am seeing, and believe we will continue to see, brands having their own take on width, fabric texture, wash, rise, and inseam length.” For Mother’s creative director and co-founder Tim Kaeding, the appeal is partly in the proportion. “Bootcut in particular feels right again because it gives you a completely different proportion after so many seasons of straight and relaxed denim,” he says.

“It has that ‘70s attitude that’s always been part of Mother, but it also feels incredibly modern styled with a small tee, a knit, or a great jacket.” The staying power lies in its ability to offer something that doesn’t feel completely unfamiliar—a little retro but still contemporary—lending sleekness with plenty of styling potential. Utility Detailing
All of this is not to say you should give up relaxed baggier denim entirely.

“What feels distinct is that it’s not about one defining fit,” says Guenza. “Denim wardrobes are becoming more versatile, with relaxed, slim, and classic straight-leg styles all existing side by side. There’s a real appreciation for pieces that feel timeless, but with a fresh perspective on fit and proportion.” One way to give looser styles a fresh edge is utility detailing, including cargo elements at Citizens of Humanity, oversized front pockets at Agolde and J.Crew, and workwear-inspired designs at Madewell and Haikure that bring a baggier shape to the classic carpenter pant, softened with on-trend elements.

The result is mindful interpretations on core classics that bridge old and new.
