Guinness Lost $277,000 Worth of Beer in a Heist. A Cargo-Theft Expert Says It Wasn’t a Random Target
The Guinness heist is the latest in a string of thefts targeting beer, bourbon, candy, and other high-demand products.
On Monday, over 70,000 barrels of Guinness were stolen from a packaging warehouse in England.
Thieves took off with more than 800 barrels of the stout from Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Aston Lane in Runcorn, England, according to the Cheshire Police Department.
“It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for,” Detective Sergeant McClatchey said in a statement.

The estimated total value of all of the items stolen is around $277,000 (£205,000).
The theft comes at a time when many alcohol brands are experiencing an increased amount of heists. Last month, Pabst Blue Ribbon lost 40,000 pounds of beer in California—a theft amounting to roughly $70,000 dollars. In June, over 10,000 of bourbon were stolen in Philadelphia.
And it’s not just alcohol; nearly half a million KitKats were stolen in March, $1.7 million worth of condoms and lubricant were swindled from a Walmart warehouse in the Bronx, and 24,000 hair masks were taken from Glimmr during peak holiday season.
