While Maryland’s offense was easily its busiest unit during the Terps’ 62-0 opening week win over Hampton, it’s Maryland’s defense that has numbers getting those around football talking.
According to Pro Football Focus, Maryland’s defense received the sixth-highest grade of all Division I teams over the weekend as it held Hampton to just 85 total yards.
The Terps’ defensive line was individually the eighth-highest graded unit in the country.
From the defensive line, redshirt sophomore edge rusher DD Holmes stood out on the tape, recording his first two sacks for Maryland. Those sacks came despite him playing just nine snaps on the night — with the big impact in little time earning Holmes the fourth-greatest individual defender grade for PFF of the week.

For their second act of the NCAA football season, the Terps are set to travel to face UConn. That game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and is set to air on CBS Sports Network.
