Canadian woman arrested in Croatia after fire near Drniš, two others wanted

21 August 2026 – A 28-year-old Canadian woman has been arrested in Croatia after a fire was allegedly started in an open area near the village of Bobodol, in the Drniš area.
Police in Drniš conducted a criminal investigation into the woman, who is suspected of endangering lives and property through a dangerous act or means.
According to the findings of the investigation, the 28-year-old woman, together with a 30-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, all Canadian citizens, allegedly started a fire using an open flame on Monday afternoon, 17 August, Šibenik-Knin Police Department said in a statement.
The incident occurred near a gravel lay-by in Bobodol. The fire burned dry grass and low vegetation across an area measuring approximately 15 by 3 metres.
The fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the intervention of local residents and firefighters, preventing it from spreading further.
Four firefighters using two vehicles from DVD Promina and DVD Biskupija extinguished the fire completely at 5.54pm.
Following the completion of the investigation, the 28-year-old suspect was handed over to the detention supervisor at the Šibenik-Knin Police Department, while a criminal complaint was submitted to the competent State Attorney’s Office in Šibenik.
The other two Canadian nationals, aged 30 and 31, are currently unavailable to police. A search has therefore been launched for both of them.
The investigation and further legal proceedings are continuing.
