It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since Juan Gabriel died. The legendary singer-songwriter may be gone, but he is far from forgotten. To mark the milestone anniversary, Telemundo will remember his life and career in a primetime special.

Juan Gabriel, Amor Eterno airs Friday, August 28 at 10 PM/9C on Telemundo. The one-hour tribute, hosted by Noticias Telemundo anchor Julio Vaqueiro, honors the Mexican icon whose songs shaped Spanish-language music for generations.

The special features in-depth interviews with family and friends who reflect on the life, prolific 45-year career and legacy of “El Divo de Juarez.” It follows his path to international stardom as an artist who moved easily across ballads, pop, ranchera and boleros, becoming one of the most influential figures in Latino music.

An international best-selling singer, Juan Gabriel wrote more than 1,500 songs, released over 40 albums and toured for decades before his death. His compositions became hits for the biggest names in the industry, and his voice turned personal pain into anthems of love and loss.

The artist, whose real name was Alberto Aguilera Valadez, died of a heart attack on August 28, 2016 in Santa Monica, California. He was 66.

His Music Still Resonates

A decade later, his robust music catalog keeps finding new listeners. His songs have generated billions of streams.

Hasta Que Te Conocí, Querida, Abrázame Muy Fuerte, ¿Por Qué Me Haces Llorar? and Ya Lo Sé Que Tú Te Vas currently rank as his top five tracks on Spotify. On YouTube, his music videos and concert performances have racked up billions of views, proof that his connection with fans and the power of his music remains alive.

A Continued Tribute

This is not the first time Telemundo has celebrated the artist. Shortly after his death, the network aired Hasta Que Te Conocí, a 13-episode biographical series that became a ratings success. Juan Gabriel himself served as one of the producers, and the show chronicled how he overcame poverty and prejudice to become one of Latin America’s most beloved performers.

Last year, Netflix released Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will, a four-part documentary directed by María José Cuevas (Beauties of the Night, The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders) that draws from decades of the artist’s personal archives.

Where to Watch

The special airs live on Telemundo and streams on Noticias Telemundo AHORA, the network’s 24/7 FAST channel. Viewers can also catch it on the Noticias Telemundo mobile app, NoticiasTelemundo.com, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
