It’s no secret that Apple Martin—the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin—often borrows clothes from her mom. Uh … wouldn’t you? “My mom’s wardrobe from her 20s is just about my favorite thing in the entire world,” Martin told Vogue earlier this year. “It makes me emotional thinking about the things in that closet.” Growing up with a bona fide red carpet star as a mom certainly has its benefits, and decades later, Paltrow’s minimalist-chic style is now rubbing off on her daughter.
Just take Martin’s latest outing in Brentwood, California yesterday: The model stepped out in a classic white summer dress with lace trimming and a drop-waist skirt that was very Gwyneth coded. It’s precisely the kind of piece that Paltrow would wear back in the ’90s and 2000s. And who knows, maybe it is actually from her mom’s closet: After all, Paltrow told Vogue last year, “She’s very into all my ’90s Calvin, of which there’s a lot—and the ’90s Prada, of which there’s a lot.
Sometimes we just play dress up, and she’ll put on my Oscar dresses and stuff like that.”
Paltrow has worn many such white dresses on the step and repeat over the years. When she received her Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2010, for one, Paltrow wore a white scalloped-edge Monique Lhuillier dress that bares a striking resemblance to Martin’s 2026 version. Back in 2004, Paltrow also wore a white Lanvin summer dress with a bowed waist to a film premiere.
Both Paltrow and Martin clearly share an affinity for clean, timeless summer frocks. It’s not the first time that the mother-daughter duo has twinned with their fashion choices. Last year, for Paltrow’s Marty Supreme premiere in New York, the pair both coordinated in black—and Martin even wore a black Calvin Klein Collection gown directly from Paltrow’s ’90s wardrobe (the actor wore it to the premiere of Emma back in 1996).
Great style clearly runs in the family. The question now is. . . Can they adopt me so I can start dipping into the archives, too?
