Texas A&M junior RB impresses during 14th preseason practice

Texas A&M’s 14th preseason practice gave plenty of optimism to the Aggie fan base and media in attendance, as Saturday’s scrimmage was the final practice where the media could watch every snap before the 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Overall, redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed continued his impressive practice streak, while his deep ball accuracy has notably improved after hitting junior wide receiver Mario Craver for a 50-yard touchdown reception and hitting nearly every receiver in the numbers before his two late interceptions.
The Aggies’ loaded wide receiver room battled with the equally loaded cornerback rotation, as both units made plays on the ball, which is great news for a secondary that, on paper, is extremely deep and looks like the program’s primary strength outside of wide receiver.
While it was hard to accurately grade every
While it was hard to accurately grade every position group, AggieYellinsider Carter Karels provided excellent insight on A&M’s running back room, especially redshirt junior back Rueben Owens, who is hoping to become the first Texas A&M back to rush for at least 800 yards since, yes, current Miami Dolphins star running back De’Von Achane.
In full agreement with Karels, Owens’ balance issues last season are seemingly a thing of the past, as the former five-star ran for a 40-plus-yard gain off the left side, showing off his NFL-level speed and agility, and continuing to look like the Aggies’ starting running back. However, sophomore Jamarion Morrow and freshmen KJ Edwards and Carsyn Baker also made plays, while Morrow’s “shifty” athleticism provides plenty of versatility.
“Sophomore Jamarion Morrow should work well as the change-of-pace back behind Owens. He continued to look shifty in the open space and ran to the right for a first down while Reed took reps at quarterback in 11-on-11 action. “
Texas A&M could easily go with a deep rotation, especially if Jamarion Morrow, Tiger Riden, and both freshmen backs continue to impress with just two weeks before the season opener.
