€38.5 million Drniš bypass enters construction phase

DRNIŠ, 19 August 2026 – Construction has officially begun on the second and third phases of the Drniš bypass, a major road infrastructure project designed to reduce through traffic in the town and improve connections across Šibenik-Knin County.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković attended the ceremony in Drniš on Wednesday, marking the formal introduction of contractors to the project.

The investment is worth €38.5 million excluding VAT, with construction scheduled to take 30 months. The works are being commissioned by <a href="https://zagreb.today/croatia-no-longer-near-eu-bottom-for-holiday-affordability/” title=”Croatia no longer near EU bottom for holiday affordability”>Croatian Roads, with the project being carried out by a consortium comprising Croatia’s TEXO MOLIOR and Slovenia’s CGP.

The bypass is also seen as an important step towards the planned Šibenik–Drniš–Knin–Bosnia and Herzegovina border expressway, which is intended to strengthen road connections between the coast, inland Dalmatia and neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Butković said preparations were also at an advanced stage for the section from Drniš towards the Oklaj interchange. Once the design work is completed, a tender is planned before the project progresses in stages.

Further investment is planned on state roads DC56 and DC33, which connect the Drniš area with Split and Knin respectively. Their combined reconstruction is valued at around €34 million.

Croatian Roads president Ivica Budimir said the bypass could also support economic development by improving the connection between Drniš’s industrial zone and the Port of Šibenik, making the area more competitive for business.
