Gregory Rodrigues and Anthony “Fluffy” Hernandez battled in an epic main event on Saturday night at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. In the end, Rodrigues was too big, strong, tough and resilient and he earned the unanimous decision win (48-47, 49-46, 48-47) over the crowd favorite. The two men earned a bonus for Fight of the Night. Two other fighters took home $100,000 bonuses for their work as well. Let’s talk MMA.
Rodrigues chopped Hernandez’s legs with powerful calf kicks. He also landed several power shots, but he couldn’t finish Fluffy. In fact, Hernandez nearly stole the fight in the third round as he battled through adversity to have his own moments.
Despite Hernandez’s effort, the judges got it right and Rodrigues called out former champion Dricus du Plessis for his next fight. With Rodrigues likely landing in the Top 5 next week, that might be feasible.
Vitor Petrino won a unanimous decision over Serghei Spivac in the co-main event. The fight was the worst on the card as Spivac seemed mostly disinterested in pushing himself. Petrino may look for a relatively quick turnaround to wash the negativity away after winning a forgettable fight.
Here’s a look at all of the results, bonus winners and highlights of every finish.
Biggest Standouts From UFC Sacramento
Aside from Rodrigues, the other fighters who stood out on Saturday are as follows.
Shanelle Dyer
The UFC’s women’s strawweight division is badly in need of a new star. I’m not saying Dyer is a star, but she has some juice as powerful striker who could raise some eyebrows.
Stan Dorsainvil
He took this fight on short notice and was working at Home Depot. He now has a big win on his MMA record and he showed off toughness, power and a pretty strong overall game. It’ll be interesting to see how far he can go with a better camp.
