Texas A&M’s 16th preseason practice took place on Tuesday afternoon, serving as the final time the local media was allowed to attend, with just 10 days before the Aggies kick off the 2026 season against Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5. Through nearly a month of evaluations for third-year coach Mike Elko, the 2026 roster might be his deepest yet, but plenty of questions remain.
At the top, redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season, has worked with new OC Holmon Wiggins, QB coach Joey Lynch, and private QB coach Jeff Christensen this offseason to fix his remaining mechanical and mental mistakes that plagued the dual-threat signal caller down the stretch last fall.
However, these problems should be solved if the revamped offensive line, featuring four new starters, gels early in the year, as the Aggies’ deep and NFL-talent-rich wide receiver rotation, led by junior Mario Craver, Ashton Bethel-Roman, Terry Bussey, and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton, will help Reed match his 2025 production.

In the backfield, losing veteran running back Le’Veon Moss this offseason certainly stings, but after his career-high season on the ground, former five-star back Reuben Owens packed on more muscle this offseason and has seemingly fixed his contact balance issues, while sophomore Jamarion Morrow might now win the starting job, but will certainly be a significant part of every offensive game plan.
After Tuesday’s 16th practice, Morrow spoke to the media, praising the 2026 running back room, and discussed his increased role after seeing limited time during his freshman season.
“I would say mentally, just taking on a bigger role this year. I was just a freshman last year, now I’m an older guy in the room. Just taking on a bigger role (and) trying to understand situations that I’ll be in, that I wouldn’t be in last year.” Morrow said.
One of the more explosive athletes on the roster, Morrow’s burst and versatility make him a home run option every time he touches the ball, and he could end up being one of the more lethal options on screens. Concerning the running back room as a whole, Owens, Morrow, redshirt freshman Tiger Riden, and stud freshmen KJ Edwards and Carsyn Baker all possess unique skill sets that could, and should, be equally utilized during the brutal nine-game SEC schedule.
“I would say we got a lot of explosive guys. We got Carsyn Baker, a lot of them younger guys, they’re explosive. We got a group and we know what we can do, I’m just trying to find my place in that. We all can make plays,” Morrow said.

It will be interesting to see how Holmon Wiggins deploys this unit early in the year, while wear and tear throughout the regular season could result in the younger players seeing their snaps elevated to prevent injury during the latter half of the schedule.
