Augsburg lead Bundesliga for first time and coach screenshots table

After two matches, Augsburg top the Bundesliga table for the first time in club history and coach Manuel Baum found a way to preserve the historical moment.

“I took a screenshot of the standings to always have it on my phone,” the coach said after the 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

The coach knows that this is just a snapshot, but said that “we humans all live for moments like this. When we meet again in a few years, we’ll all be telling each other that Augsburg once got to be at the top of the standings. I think it’s okay to enjoy that for a day.”

Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen also stressed that it’s a special moment for the club.

For most of our team, I think this

“For most of our team, I think this is the first time, so in that sense, it’s something special. At the same time, of course, we can keep this in perspective: It’s only the second matchday, and we know this won’t automatically stay that way,” he said.

“But this start shows that we worked hard in the pre-season. We want to keep this momentum going for as long as possible.”

Augsburg are tied on six points with Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and debutants Elversberg, but lead on goal difference.

That’s the beauty of football

“That’s the beauty of football. Nobody would have expected that scoreline after the first half,” Baum said.

Frnakfurt broke the deadlock in the sixth minute and took their lead into half-time, but Augsburg rallied back and scored four goals in the second half, two in the opening minutes.

“We were too timid and Frankfurt had quite a few chances. But this team believe in themselves and you could see that after the break,” Baum said.
