Chip and Joanna Gaines are no strangers to a challenge. Now, the Magnolia founders say they have embarked on their largest estate project yet.
On Thursday, the couple announced a new show, Fixer Upper: Chip Bought a Mansion. The pair will transform a massive property Chip bought as a surprise

Joanna, co-founder of Magnolia, launched the brand alongside her husband, Chip, nearly 25 years ago. After gaining prominence for renovating houses on the HGTV show Fixer Upper, the two used their company to transform Waco, Texas. They have starred in, produced, or curated dozens of television programs. The next one, a six-episode series, covers the restoration of a 15,000-square-foot estate in Waco.
According to People, Chip bought the property three years ago and initially viewed it as an “exciting investment.” After he realized it needed more work than he had originally estimated, he recruited Joanna to help.
Refreshed leadership advice from CEO Stephanie Mehta
“This will be the biggest fixer we’ve ever done,” Joanna said in the new trailer. “This is actually my favorite part about what we do, is that we get to do it together. This one just feels heavier.”
The announcement comes three years after the couple
The announcement comes three years after the couple took a break from the business. Joanna said the three-month hiatus helped cure the couple’s burnout and realign them with Magnolia’s original mission: a home should be lived in and loved well.
“As far as Magnolia, we’ve been doing this for almost 25 years and we’ve never really stopped. And about three years ago, we stopped seeing vision,” she said on Hoda Kotb’s Joy 101 podcast. “We stopped remembering like, ‘Why are we doing this?’”
