The workplace AI company behind ‘Townies’ is reportedly raising fresh capital, the latest sign that personal-assistant software has become one of Silicon Valley’s hottest categories.
Town, a startup that builds AI personal assistants for businesses, is in negotiations to raise funding at a valuation of about $1 billion.
Index Ventures is leading the round, according to the industry newsletter Newcomer. The fresh financing would make Town, dubbed “Silicon Valley’s new favorite AI tool” by Inc., the second personal-assistant company in a week to achieve unicorn status in what Newcomer calls a “personal agent frenzy.”

Based in San Francisco, Town was founded in 2024 by Jean-Denis Greze, former chief technology officer at Plaid, and Tony Vincent, a former Google applied AI product director. The company previously received backing from Andreessen Horowitz and Forerunner Ventures.

Town creates an autonomous, context-aware personal agent that has been described as a “digital chief of staff.” Unlike a consumer chatbot, which requires a prompt, “Townie” sits in the background and learns how users work across existing apps, then acts proactively to coordinate tasks across email, calendar, desktop, and messaging tools.
The company offers monthly and annual subscriptions
The company offers monthly and annual subscriptions for individuals as well as businesses. Individual plans range from a free tier that includes a 14-day trial of the company’s Pro service to a $199-per-month Power Plus plan, which includes unlimited contact research, priority email support, and onboarding assistance.
Town business subscriptions start at $59 per seat per month and rise to $149 per seat per month. Enterprise customers can negotiate custom pricing.
