Brandon Inniss earns Ohio State football’s Block O honor for 2026

Ohio State wide receiver Brandon Inniss will wear No. 0 this season as the recipient of the program’s prestigious Block O honor.

Inniss was one of the Buckeyes’ two returning captains and has been regarded for his fiery leadership since his arrival in 2023. The announcement was made Aug. 22 following the end of preseason training camp.

Coach Ryan Day described Inniss as the “right choice” in a statement released by the school.

It is an honor that represents much more

“It is an honor that represents much more than what a player does on the field,” Day said. “It represents toughness, accountability, and character, and Brandon has earned the respect of everyone in our building through the way he works, prepares and serves his teammates.”

Inniss started in the slot as a junior last season, finishing with 36 receptions for 271 yards and three touchdowns, and also returned punts.

It’s the first time since 2023 that the Buckeyes’ Block O winner has represented the offensive side of the ball after linebackers Sonny Styles and Cody Simon had donned the number in the most recent seasons.

The tradition began in 2020 in recognition

The tradition began in 2020 in recognition of Bill Willis, a defensive end who was a two-time All-American at Ohio State in 1943 and 1944 and later became a pioneer in the NFL as the league’s first Black starter.

Defensive end Jonathon Cooper was the first to receive the Block O honor, followed by offensive lineman Thayer Munford in 2021 and wide receivers Kamryn Babb and Xavier Johnson in 2022 and 2023.
