As part of the deal, Disney+ will also stream the 1990s animated series Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which is the first official arc of the Pokémon anime, covering Ash Ketchum’s adventures through the Kanto and Orange Islands regions. That series started airing on Disney XD earlier this month and is now streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.
The announcement was made at the Behind the Scenes with Aardman — ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu panel at Pokémon XP, a major fan event held alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. That event in San Francisco drew more than 50,000 Pokemon fans.
The announcement was accompanied by the release of a brief trailer, which provided a first look at some of the characters in the series.
According to information provided by Aardman, “the new series is set in Pokémon’s Galar region and sees Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown.”

Netflix also produced several new original Pokemon series, including Pokemon Concierge and Pokemon Horizons.
