Dorman’s Nick Means, rising star Carter Nash dominate on ground by sharing carries

Dorman senior running back Nick Means knows he will share more carries in 2026 with sophomore Carter Nash, one hottest young prospects in the country.

In the opening game, Means showed why it’s his backfield to share.

He scored two of his three touchdowns in the first quarter and led the way as Dorman beat Hillcrest, 40-30, Aug. 21 in high school football Week 1 of the SCHSL season at Cavalier Stadium.

His third TD, a 42-yard run with 2:18 to play after a two-hour weather delay, put it out of reach. He finished at 1:15 a.m. with 127 yards on 16 carries and a 65-yard TD catch.

Nash (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) showed his talent, too, with 115 yards on 19 carries. He has offers from South Carolina and North Carolina.

Means has offers from Wake Forest, Liberty, Samford, The Citadel and North Carolina A&T. He’s been somewhat overlooked because of his size and overshadowed by the running back talent in Spartanburg County alone.

“(Means) doesn’t really get the credit he deserves around here, but I think he’s one of the top running backs in the state,” Dorman coach Jake Morris said. “He’s a great leader, a great teammate, and a hard runner. He’s had a great weight room offseason in the spring and summer. He was able to come out tonight and show it.”

Ja’Bez Thomas, a star defensive back who takes

Ja’Bez Thomas, a star defensive back who takes some direct snaps on offense, ran six times for 78 yards.

“Ja’Bez coming in and doing the things he does just makes us really dangerous,” Morris said. “The offensive line playing the way they did is big, too. We’re really going to depend on those so much. We trust all three of them. It’s all about who’s hot and what we want to do offensively. We can keep them all fresh.”
