Struggling to Build Your Business? Why You Should Consider Joining a Paid Online Community

I took part in a networking event recently and it included a ton of introverts who confessed they really struggled with building online relationships. Many said they had no problem making connections, but the trouble was in maintaining those connections.

I’ve battled with this same challenge. And while I think in person networking is still the best way to build lasting relationships, I’ve been successful at building many professional relationships online.

Interestingly, many of the highest quality ones started in paid communities.

What makes online communities so valuable? And why should you consider joining a paid community over a free one? Let’s discuss.

Refreshed leadership advice from CEO Stephanie Mehta

Why are online communities so valuable?

As humans, we crave connection. We want to feel seen and heard, and we feel good when we can help others feel the same way. This is one reason why social media exploded in the modern era—it made connection easier.

But easier isn’t always better. Over time, I’ve found that doubling down on going deeper, i.e., deeper and more honest conversations, results in deeper, more valuable connections. The problem with social media is it tends to be more shallow, and many are hesitant to share their true thoughts and feelings in a public forum (for good reason).

But private membership communities ae different. Because the discussions are closed to the public, people tend to be more open and generous. Additionally, since the same members are consistently revisiting the community, you have the chance to find (and give) help, and to gradually deepen your relationships.
